Structural Alterations Mater Hospital

Siemens had installed a CAT scanner in the Mater Hospital several years previous. The CAT scanner had to be relocated to the new hospital building. The only feasible route was through an existing doorway.

Working on behalf of Titanium Developments and their client Siemens, we reviewed the temporary works proposal and advised on changes to make the temporary works more cost effective and efficient.

Working in a live hospital environment to a very tight programme and client restrictions, the works were carried out over two weekends. In week one we needled and formed the opening in a one meter thick limestone Ashlar Kalp wall and removed one side of the granite door surround.

Siemens moved the CAT scanner on the second weekend. We re-built the door opening using natural cement and lime, introduced new natural Wicklow granite door reveals, re grouted the heads and re built the door opening.
