Sluice Gate

Sluice Gate constructed c1870. There was severe erosion of the joins with the original mortar missing in a lot of bed joints. The sluice gate leaked severely and as a result the lake levels dropped during dry weather.

We numbered and deconstructed the sluice gate where the abutment walls were loose. All the remaining sound structure was grouted with a lime casein grout. The granite blocks were re built using a NHL mortar gauged with natural cement. All the stone blocks were repointed and puddled clay installed to ensure the structure was impermiable to the lakes water pressure. The sluice gate now functions as per design.
