Structural Alterations Arch Installation

A large opening had been made in the original masonry wall with a cast in situ concrete head. The client wanted to maintain the opening but with a more authentic door opening in the building.

Needles were installed at high level and the modern concrete repair removed. The Wicklow granite dimensioned blocks were built with the aid of Lewis pins and a block and tackle on the temporary support beams.

The quoins were constructed up to springer height and the timber form installed to form the temporary support for the voussoirs. The voussoirs were installed, grouted. The remainder of the wall was tightly packed and needles removed and repairs made to the original rubble wall. The gable was then repointed using a hot mixed mortar gauged with a NHL.
