Cast Lead

Prior to the many adhesives and epoxy resins and power tools that are now commonly used for fixing metalwork to masonry. Lead and Brimstone were used to secure and weather the metal embedment. Unfortunately Brimstone is highly corrosive and can damage the ironwork due to the corrosive nature of the sulphur, causing expansion of the embedment and major damage to the masonry.

Cast lead is excellent at weathering the ironwork and preventing the iron corroding. It has been used successfully for centuries. We can remove embedded wrought or cast iron in stone and re set with lead, as has been done for hundreds of years.
