Masonry Ruin Repair

We have worked on several medieval and post medieval ruins. While these are masonry structures they require a completely different mind-set and methodology when carrying out work or repairs. We bring best national and international practices to the discussion and are always a big believer of less is more.

We also promote the use of soft capping over hard capping in masonry ruins as it has several distinct advantages over hard capping, notably accommodation of movement, absorption, evaporation, offers frost protection to the exposed structure and can be visually attractive.

Our masons have training in the correct use and application of herbicides. Kevin Fitzpatrick is one of our most experienced masons and has over 45 years’ experience as a master mason. Kevin has previously worked for over two decades with the OPW. Kevin worked as foreman Mason at Ferns Castle C13th, Cistercian Abbey Baltinglass C1148, Castledermot Abbey C1302 and Glendalough. Kevin recently attended and successfully completed the Building Conservation Master Class on Masonry Ruin Conservation and consolidation in West Dean Collage.
